The Importance of inner trust

Jul 24, 2025

Do you know that feeling when someone tells you something, and it sticks with you, prompting the thought, “I need to act on this!”? It’s that inner voice telling you this is important for you. So, if you recognize this feeling, what do you do next? When the moment presents itself, do you act on it, or do you let other things take over and dismiss that feeling of importance you had before?

This post is about a special phenomenon called sea sparkle, the chase to see it, and the magic of this event when it actually happened. Above all, it’s about trusting your inner voice, your inner truth, that inner knowing. When you watch the video at the top of this post, you’ll see the first part of the live session I did last weekend. In this post, I will delve deeper into how everything came together if we are willing to truly trust our own inner voice.

Before I continue, let me share a little bit about the inner voice. We have multiple voices (and yes, they can sound the same), each with its own purpose. There’s the chatterbox, which constantly worries about what you need to do and what might go wrong. That’s not the voice I’m talking about. What I mean is the layer underneath—the voice that comes from deep inside. It can be related to your playful side, the part that resembles a little kid who knows your dreams. Then there’s the more adult version, your (future) best self, who knows what you need and what you want to become. This part is more serious but can be really encouraging since it understands what is important to you. The challenge is to reach this voice, which will let you know what matters. The clue? You will likely feel something in the pit of your stomach. It can be butterflies or something else, but if you pay attention regularly, you will start to recognize it.

Trusting Your Inner Voice

This particular Saturday night, I saw all these messages indicating that there would most likely be sea sparkle. From what I understood, it requires hot weather and not too much wind or rain, and there was some chance of rain. Still, I thought, “Let’s go! Check this out!” And so, my friend and I did.

As it got dark, nothing much happened. There was no blue current visible in the ocean water, and it had started to drizzle lightly, causing doubt to set in. However, I had seen those messages, so unlike my friend, I knew there was a chance if we could find the right spot.

Knowing that if the ocean wasn’t lit up with blue waves, the second place to go was actually the harbor entrance. It consists of big concrete blocks where the waves smash into them. These spots are usually a little hidden, so it takes a bit more effort to get there and check them out, and that’s exactly the make-or-break point.

My suggestion was to go check it out, even if I wasn’t entirely certain about the road...

Overcoming Obstacles

Of course, I had the choice to say I wasn't going to go. In this case, it was about looking for sea sparkle. It would have been easier to say, "You know, it's been raining; let's not do it." But here's the thing: there were people who said ahead of time that tonight was going to be a great night. I asked, "What about the rain?" but there wasn't much—just a slight drizzle. People said, "We're going to stick around." I also knew that the place we were going to was magnificent when it works.

In this case, the sea sparkle refers to the blue current that lights up when it splashes against something. It's caused by algae, and they need to splash into something to create that effect. How better than the rocks of the harbor? Being close to the harbor, I said, "Let's go to that place where we've seen it before."

However, it wasn't easy because there were road constructions. They were building new places, which locked down all the routes I knew could take us there. Since I wasn't too familiar with the area, it felt a bit like searching. Yes, we drove around three or four times. There were moments when I didn't like the people I saw in my rearview mirror because they were pushing me while I was driving. My friend even said, "You need to get away from here because I don't feel safe." I agreed, but I still wanted to reach the place I had in mind. Instead of giving up, I said, "No, let's continue on." And that's what we did, even though she was done. I thought, "Who cares about that extra round around the block?"

The Journey to Discovery

Eventually, we found the place. I remembered that there was a letter "K" referring to where I wanted to be, but it wasn't visible everywhere. When I finally found it, I knew from my previous visit that I could park in the handicapped spot. At that moment, I would get my crutches and walk down the path, which would be in the dark. I wouldn't do that without extra support because I'm blind as a bat in the dark, and I need stability.

Now, here's the thing: while I was a little anxious earlier with someone driving behind me, later on, a white van passed us, and I thought, "Oh well, this doesn't feel wrong." It was an inner feeling telling me, "This is okay."It’s funny how moments like that can shift your perspective.

I looked to the side and saw signs related to the harbor, including the logo of the municipality of The Hague. I felt reassured. When the driver stopped and asked us what we were doing, I replied, "We want to see if there's sea sparkle." To my surprise, he offered to drive us there, saying, "I don't think you can walk that entire stretch." He was right; I had already stretched myself by walking without my crutches and braces just to see how far I could get. Last week, I could only make it to a certain corner before having to turn back. This time, I made it all the way to the beach, and I was proud of myself for that.

A Moment of Trust

So when he offered to drive us, I thought, "Yeah, this is a good guy." He checked all the boxes for trustworthiness. However, a little girl had warned me never to go with strangers. She asked, "But Aunti Lexy, how do you know? Isn’t he a stranger? Aren't you not supposed to go into vans with strangers?" I acknowledged her wisdom, saying, "You are so right about this!" But I saw the logo, and I felt it was okay. I could explain why this wouldn't be good enough for her, but it was good enough for me because I'm an adult and have developed a sense of judgment. She was spot on.

This led to a discovery of exploring the harbor and learning about what the harbor masters do—not just about the harbor itself and the boats, but also about the tunnels linking to other harbors. There was so much I didn't know and was curious about. The driver took us through places that aren't accessible to the general public, which was really cool.

The Magic of Connection

But perhaps the most amazing part was that it wasn't just about the sea sparkle—the algae that light up in the water when they crash into something. They also lit up the sand, which was unique. Beyond that, the mere fact that he resonated with the way I think and how I connect with others was incredible. I realized, "You are neurodivergent," and he confirmed, "Yes, I am." I added, "I bet you are creatively gifted too," and he agreed, saying, "I'm sure I am." We are visual thinkers who connect ideas in a way that allows us to see the consequences of actions and relationships. When you meet someone with that same ability, it’s amazing.

However, I also know that when neurotypical people (the majority) are asked something, they focus on one thing. When we are asked, we tend to think, "But what if, and how about?" This can distract others immensely. As a result, it can be frustrating because we don't understand what the other person wants, and they don't understand us. But when we finally grasp the difference, oh my God, that's when wonders and magic happen.

Some Last Things to Consider

That's what I wanted to share with you: when you trust your inner voice and your inner feelings, magic can happen. And magic happened that night for me, my friend, and the harbor master.

Now, if you were to follow your inner voice and your inner truth, where would it lead you? What kind of magic would you experience? **Let me know; leave a comment.**
